What is Amtgard?
From the Amtgard, Inc website:
Amtgard is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization that is dedicated to the recreation of the Sword and Sorcery genre as well as educational aspects of both Medieval and Ancient cultures. Amtgard focuses largely on a Medieval-based combat system but also encompasses the arts and sciences of the time, in a friendly, social atmosphere.
Amtgard uses safe, foam-padded replicas of Medieval weaponry. Anyone aged fourteen years or older may compete in the martial aspect of the game but we welcome members of all ages. There's a place for everyone.
Amtgard is free to play, though to vote in the althings requires dues payments of six dollars every six months.
To get started, you should read the official Amtgard Rules of Play [PDF]
Who are we?
We are the local Santa Barbara chapter of Amtgard. Our chapter is called the Shire of the Eternal Coast.
For more information on our history and such, please see our page on the AmtWiki.
When and where do we meet?
We currently meet around 1:00 PM every other Sunday in Oak Park.
- From US 101 Southbound, take the Las Positas exit, then turn left on Las Positas. Turn right onto Tallant Road, and keep going till it seemingly dead-ends on Clinton Terrace. Turn left on Clinton, and almost immediately turn right again back onto Tallant. Tallant will soon appear to dead-end again, but it actually continues to the right. Turn right there, and then turn right on Alamar. Oak Park will be on your right; just look for swinging foam.
- From US 101 Northbound, take the Pueblo exit, turn right on West Junipero Street, and then left on Alamar. Oak Park will be on your left; just look for swinging foam.
You are encouraged to come and play with us! Whether you are new to Amtgard or visiting from another park, we love to meet new people.
